Post 100
So this is my 100th blog post since moving to this site in October. I though, maybe I should look back on what’s happened in the past 5 months and after doing so, I guess parts have come out of the blue that I’d un expected. To begin with I focused on desktop users, mobiles were out of the question. But not long after that came along simple sites (such as mobify) came along to help you easily build a mobile website and redirect mobile users there (based on your User Agent (UA)).This was a great help to me and the users seeing as mobile web is constantly evolving.
From then onwards I looked more towards the desktop again, “what if I could give instant updates”. I tried this and, well, it didn’t exactly go to plan, but it did (does) work. I teamed up with a company called Conduit. Along side my already existing toolbar I then expanded on that and “created” individual browser apps for Firefox, Google Chrome and Internet Explorer. Heck, they even gave me the option to publish mobile apps. (A demo can be seen here – http://mob.conduit.com/itsdaniel0). Although it sent you the the web page anyway, so I thought it was kind of useless.
In regards to that, I then had an Android App for my site seeing as I wanted to integrate mobile users even more. I don’t collect any stats for the app, so I don’t know how many people are using it (if any). I just hope they are. Before the app though I created a work-around SMS (text messaging) service for users, for instant updates. That idea didn’t go too well, but hey, it’s there if people want it.
Then there’s a bunch of behind the scenes stuff. Take the share buttons for example, when I underwent maintenance a few months bag I added the “floating share bar” which will always display a share button (depending on your screen size) so the user can instantly share a post. Not to mention CloudFlare, they’ve (I’ve) done a lot of behind-the-scenes work to make a faster and more reliable website for you. They cache my content and place it around the world so you load it from the nearest server.
So as you can see, compare my old site to this one and the change within a five month period can be quite drastic so to speak. Since I’ve changed, I get around 50 avg. page views a day, take a look for yourselves. Heck, I guess I owe it all to you lot anyway!
